Analysis of gastrointestinal archeons of obese rats subjected to transcranial direct current stimulation using next-generation sequencing method

Project manager: Dr. Katarzyna Talaga-Ćwiertnia
Implementation period: 2024-2025

The main objective of the study will be to evaluate the rat intestinal archeobiom depending on the diet used and the type of stimulation of brain centers. Previous literature data suggest that the qualitative and quantitative composition of the gut microbiota may influence the development of civilization diseases, including obesity due to energy dyshomeostasis. Currently, research is being carried out to understand the bacterial and fungal profiles in the course of various diseases, while archeons, which are still a poorly understood component of the microbiota, are being overlooked. Hence, the planned scientific outcome will be to determine the profiles of archeons in rat intestinal biopsy and feces depending on the degree of fatness and the applied transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). In addition, the study will aim to evaluate the relationship between the presence and composition of archeons, obesity and transcranial stimulation.
